Degrees of Green
University of Iowa M.A. Professional Journalism Capstone Project
In 2008, the Masters of Professional Journalism students at the University of Iowa School of Journalism & Mass Communication shared stories of environmental movements around the Iowa, lessening our state's carbon footprint. From growing prairie grasses in ditches to saving Iowa's wildlife, these movements were and are spearheaded by professionals, students, and people who just wanted to see change in favor of saving our earth.
Fascinated by Iowa's prairies since childhood, I set out to interview prairie experts and protectors, from roadside managers to university instructors, all working to combat global warming and restore these vibrant, versatile plants to their home soil. These features and profiles were bundled into a special edition of the UI's Daily Iowan newspaper as an insert called Degrees of Green. And to help share these environmental warriors with a larger reading audience, the Quad-City Times agreed to run my story. Read the online version, "Happy Trails," at qctimes.com. |
